Immigration Resources

A Safe And Secure Learning Environment For All

Right to a Free Public Education: All children have a right to equal access to free public education, regardless of their or their parents'/guardians' immigration status.

California State Resources

These resources aim to clarify public program eligibility, federal immigration policy implications, and more.

The State of California has launched an online resource hub to help families and organizations navigate immigration-related questions. The website, available at https://www.ca.gov/immigration/, provides vital information for families with mixed immigration statuses and groups such as schools, local governments, and community organizations. The resources aim to clarify public program eligibility, federal immigration policy implications, and more. To ensure accessibility for diverse communities, the resources are available in English, Spanish, and other languages.

The California Attorney General’s Office has also released updated quick reference guides for school staff, students, and families. Building on previous guidance, these guides offer essential information on educational rights for immigrant students. The complete guides are available in English, Spanish, and additional languages at oag.ca.gov/immigrant/resources, and translations in more languages are coming soon to support all families further.

Practical Guidance for Families

The following are support resources for students and families:

  • Families are encouraged to create a Family Plan to keep in confidence.
  • Families are encouraged to add additional emergency contacts at School by contacting the GHC Attendance Office.
  • Families are encouraged to create a Caregiver Authorization Affidavit for certain people with a familial relationships; or a petition for Appointment of a Temporary Guardian of a Person (usual non-familial). This is a legal process that may require legal assistance.
