Children and Youth Behavioral Health Initiative (CYBHI)
In the Budget Act of 2021, California launched the Children and Youth Behavioral Initiative (CYBHI). This program focuses on enhancing the physical and behavioral well-being of all students by increasing intervention and prevention services at school, where students spend a majority of their time.
This new law requires school districts to partner with health service providers, including Medi-Cal and private insurance, to support social and emotional health services for students. As a result, districts can now receive reimbursement for physical and behavioral health services provided to students during the school day. This presents a significant opportunity for Granada Hills Charter (GHC) as we navigate budget constraints by receiving reimbursement for existing services like screening, assessments, and mental health supports.
In the summer of 2025, parents will be asked to provide health insurance or Medi-Cal information during the Annual Update process and subsequently on all new student enrollments.
