iGranada for Elementary School Students
Student Experience
At iGranada, we carefully design our elementary program to ensure students ample support while also providing high-quality academics in an engaging learning environment. overwhelming
Our elementary curriculum aligns with the expectations of the International Baccalaureate curriculum used on the GHC TK-8 campus. Students are provided a full curriculum, which includes:
- Daily instruction in reading, writing, and mathematics
- Weekly instruction in Art or Music, Physical Education/Health, Science, Social Studies, and World Languages
In addition to the digital curriculum, elementary students are provided with physical workbooks as well as a supply kit that supports their learning.
Students are required to log on and engage in daily synchronous instruction for approximately 1-2 hours as well as complete at least four hours of asynchronous instruction each day.
Students are invited onto campus every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday from 8:50 a.m.-1:00 p.m. for in-person support as well as collaborative instruction. Instruction is broken up into two blocks, one for support in Language Arts and Math and one of electives. The schedule for those days is:
- 8:50 - 9:00 a.m. - Dropoff + Morning Check-In and Goal Setting
- 9:00 - 10:25 a.m. - Block 1
- 10:30 - 10:50 a.m. - Recess
- 10:50 a.m. - 12:15 p.m. - Block 2
- 12:20 - 12:50 p.m. - Lunch
- 1:00 - 1:10 p.m. - Pickup
Students are required to come on campus each week for at least four hours.
Parent Support
We believe that parents are an integral part of a student’s education, especially at the elementary level. We encourage parents to be actively involved in supporting their child in the learning activities. Through our curriculum partners, we provide access to a Learning Coach website where parents can get access to curriculum guides as well as resources you can use to support your student in their learning activities.
FAQ
Do elementary students in iGranada still take the same type of classes that students in a traditional school environment would take?
Yes, students in iGranada engage in the same coursework that students in the in-person learning environment take. This includes daily instruction in Language Arts and Mathematics as well as at last weekly instruction in Science, Social Studies, PE/Health, Coding, and Art (Grade 4) or Music (Grade 5). During in-person lessons, students will also engage in instruction in Spanish and Mandarin.
Are all of the classes online or can students come in for instruction?
We are a hybrid program. Coursework is provided through an online platform, so that students can access their work wherever they are on a schedule that works for them. We also have an in-person learning environment at the GHC TK-8 campus. Students are invited onto campus twice a week for in-person support for all of their classes as well as in-person instruction in Spanish and Mandarin.
Are classrooms open everyday for students to come on campus?
Our elementary students are welcome on campus every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday from 9:00-1:00.
What is the program like for students when they come on campus?
Students are invited onto campus for a four-hour black each Tuesday and Thursday, from 8:50a.m.-1:00p.m. During that time, the student schedule is:
- 9:00 - 10:25 a.m. - Block 1
- 10:30 - 10:50 a.m. - Recess
- 10:50 a.m. - 12:15 p.m.- Block 2
- 12:20 - 12:50 p.m. - Lunch
What academic support is available for iGranada elementary students who are struggling?
Each student is assigned an academic advisor and they are the first line of support for students. The advisor meets with students daily to assess their progress and provide guidance as needed. Students who need additional support may be directed to work with another team member for subject-specific support or to our online tutoring support. If a student is falling behind or not meeting attendance expectations, they will be placed on the Tiered System of Re-Engagement and a parent meeting will be called.
What is my role, as a parent, in supporting my student in this program?
We see parents as active partners in supporting student success. Parents have access to our online platforms so that they can monitor student progress and receive regular updates on their grades. Parents also have access to the Learning Coach website, where they can access support materials for the curriculum. Advisors regularly communicate any concerns with parents and, if needed, will call a meeting to support a student who is not meeting expectations and is placed on our Tiered System of Re-Engagement. We ask that parents encourage their students in their work, support them (but not do the work for them), and engage in regular communication with the advisor to ensure that their student’s needs are being met.
What is the difference between this program and homeschooling?
The principal difference is that we are a public school. This means that we provide the curriculum, instructors, student support services, and all assessments (in a homeschool environment, the parents are responsible for securing all of these elements). Our program complies with all state and federal education standards and our students have the same access to learning that students in a traditional school environment would have. Like homeschooling, though, our parents have increased daily supervision of their students and can be hands-on in their support of student learning. We see parents as a critical partner in student success.
