Curriculum & Instruction
Academic Program availability varies from year to year. Students must complete the enrollment process and meet with their GHC counselor before the end of the Spring semester. Failure to meet with the counselor before April may limit course and academic program selection. Unless otherwise stated in the Course Catalog, all courses are accredited by the Western Association of Schools and Colleges (WASC) and are transferable to schools throughout the United States. Students who graduate from GHC and earn a C or better in the required courses will meet the UC/CSU "a-g" subject area requirements.

Career Technical Education (CTE)
Career Technical Education (CTE) classes offered at Granada Hills Charter help students explore a variety of careers in real-world settings, plan their coursework to align with their career goals, and receive training from industry professionals with extensive experience in their fields. CTE courses help students prepare for post-secondary institutions where they can continue their career-oriented education. These classes are designed to develop the competence, confidence, critical thinking skills, and contextual understanding that will promote career success after graduation.
Ongoing research of regional job markets directs our curricular choices to ensure students have the most up-to-date technical and soft skills required in today’s dynamic job markets. Many of our CTE courses offer an opportunity to earn professional designations recognized in their respective fields of employment. Our CTE pathways integrate opportunities to represent GHC in national and regional competitions where they employ their career skills in real-world scenarios.
In addition to earning a high school diploma, GHC students can earn a CTE certificate at GHC. Career and Technical Education (CTE) courses prepare students for high-demand careers with a depth of learning that builds real-world skills. Each course is part of a comprehensive program of study so that students graduate ready for a job, certification or technical school.

Departments
Dual Enrollment/Concurrent Enrollment
GHC students can earn college credit while still in high school through dual enrollment and/or concurrent enrollment. Both are college-level courses that are open to all GHC students, but there are some key differences:
Dual Enrollment
Courses count for both high school and college credit. The program is exclusively for GHC students.
- Courses are only offered in the Fall and Spring semesters
- Take classes with other GHC students
- Tuition, fees, and books are covered
- GHC dial enrollment counselors will enroll students
- All courses will earn high school credit
- K-12 forms are sent to the designated dual enrollment counselor
Concurrent Enrollment
Courses can earn college credit, may also earn high school credit, and are open to the public.
- Courses offered in the Fall, Spring, Winter, and Summer quarters
- Take classes with other community college students
- Tuition is free, but GHC students are responsible for additional fees
- Students will enroll themselves during their registration appointment via LACCD portal
- Not all courses will earn high school credit
- K-12 forms are sent to the student's school counselor
Graduation Requirements
To earn a Granada Hills Charter diploma, students must:
- Earn 230 credits with grades of “D” or better
- Complete the minimum UC “a–g” sequence
- Meet California Department of Education (CDE) graduation requirements
- Fulfill additional GHC graduation requirements
For UC/CSU admission, students must earn a grade of “C” or better in “a–g” courses. Completing the minimum GHC graduation requirements does not guarantee UC/CSU admission. To remain competitive for admission and scholarships, students are encouraged to take more than the minimum 15 “a–g” courses, all with grades of “C” or better. If a student earns below a “C,” the course must be repeated with a “C” or higher, or in some cases, validated through advanced coursework.
Colleges also consider SAT/ACT scores, GPA, and extracurricular activities. Students should consult their counselor and review individual college websites for specific requirements.
Information for Incoming Students
GHC uses the Fall eighth-grade report card to determine placement. All courses are subject to availability and subject to change. Students in grade nine must take six (6) courses in subject areas as follows:

- Mathematics: All students must take mathematics in grade nine.Students who passed Algebra 1 with a "B" or better will be enrolled in CP Geometry, while students with a "C" or below in Algebra 1 will repeat this course in grade nine. CP Algebra 2 is higly accelerated and should only be taken by students who have earned an "A" or "B" in Geometry.
- World Language: All students take world language in grade nine. Students design research projects and presentations in a wide variety of subjects and disciplines, and draw upon their own interests and curiosity in order to increase their college-readiness skills. Students who earn a "3" or above in four or more AP courses and complete the two foundational courses are eligible for an AP Capstone Diploma. Students intereste in the AP Capstone Diploma Program must complete an interest form and application.
