Art Teacher Julie Neumann Receives Statewide Distinguished Educator Recognition

VAPA Chair joins a California cohort of art teachers who have demonstrated the highest level of professionalism and impact in the field

Granada Hills Charter (GHC) proudly announces that department chair and Visual Arts teacher Julie Neumann has been honored with the Ruth Jansen Distinguished Art Educator Award from the California Art Education Association (CAEA), representing Southern California.

Each year, CAEA selects one to three educators statewide for the Ruth Jansen Award — bestowed in recognition of exemplary instruction, strong contributions to school and community art programs, and a demonstrated commitment to the advancement of arts education.

Neumann is among the 2025 CAEA Ruth Jansen Distinguished Art Educator Award recipients, a group chosen for their outstanding dedication to nurturing creativity and high-quality art education in California schools.

“This honor is especially meaningful to me,” said Neumann. “It reflects not just my work, but the passion and talent of my students and my colleagues in our VAPA community.”

Under Neumann’s leadership, the VAPA program at Granada Hills Charter has flourished — offering robust visual arts curricula, fostering student expression, and cultivating a school culture that values the arts as essential to a well-rounded education. Her commitment aligns with CAEA’s mission to raise public awareness of the importance of high-quality art programs for all of California’s children.

This recognition not only celebrates the accomplishments of individual art educators at GHC but also reinforces the school's overarching mission to provide an enriching and academically sound educational experience. It validates the strategic efforts made to build a faculty that consistently delivers impactful learning opportunities.

The Visual and Performing Arts (VAPA) Department at GHC includes instrumental and vocal music, music technology and production, theatre, musical theatre, dance, digital media, art history, and various visual arts mediums, including advanced drawing, sculpting, and mixed media.

This award reflects her unwavering commitment to excellence and the profound influence she has across our entire school.”

With the Ruth Jansen Distinguished Art Educator Award, Neumann joins a distinguished cohort of California art teachers who have demonstrated the highest level of professionalism and impact in the field. The grant — funded by a memorial trust in honor of arts-education advocate Ruth Jansen — underscores CAEA’s long-standing commitment since 1983 to support and recognize educators and their contributions.

Professional recognition for GHC's teachers, such as Ms. Neumann, significantly elevates the school's overall standing. It underscores the academic rigor present within the curriculum and affirms the profound expertise of the educators collectively. Such acknowledgments contribute to a heightened perception of the school's educational offerings, reinforcing its position as a leading institution. The award reflects a broader dedication to maintaining robust educational standards and providing students with access to highly skilled instructors.

Granada Hills Charter and its VAPA department invite the community, students, parents, and local partners to join in congratulating Neumann on this well-deserved recognition.
