Granada Hills Charter Student Tiffany Kurniawan Earns Prestigious Recognition in Global Science and Sustainability Competitions
Granada Hills Charter (GHC) is proud to announce that Tiffany Kurniawan, a distinguished student with a passion for earth science and sustainability, has been recognized on an international level for her outstanding contributions to scientific research and environmental advocacy. Kurniawan was recently named a finalist in the 2024 Earth Science Video Contest hosted by the American Geological Institute and a semifinalist in the 2025 LearningPlanet Youth Design Contest.
The Earth Science Video Contest is an annual competition that invites participants from around the world to creatively communicate key concepts in earth science through film. This year’s theme, "Earth Science Connects Us," served as the foundation for Kurniawan’s video, One Earth. Her submission explored the interconnected nature of geological processes, including the water cycle, tectonic movements, and air pollution, while highlighting both the positive and negative impacts of human intervention.
In addition to her success in earth science, Kurniawan was recognized as a semifinalist in the 2025 LearningPlanet Youth Design Challenge, an esteemed global competition co-hosted by UNESCO and the Learning Planet Institute. With over 1,000 submissions from young visionaries across the world, the challenge encourages participants to develop innovative learning programs for their ideal university. Kurniawan’s project, The Pathway for Ocean Development and Sustainability (PODS) Institute, envisions a collaborative global organization dedicated to fostering connections among students, scientists, and industry leaders. The initiative aims to promote sustainable ocean resource management through interdisciplinary education, hands-on projects, and international dialogue.
Reflecting on these significant achievements, Kurniawan expressed her appreciation for the opportunity to engage with a global network of like-minded individuals. "I am so grateful for these amazing experiences, and I learned a lot not only through the submission process but also from my fellow competitors," she stated.
Granada Hills Charter takes immense pride in Kurniawan’s accomplishments, which exemplify the school’s commitment to fostering academic excellence, leadership, and global citizenship. Her dedication to scientific inquiry and sustainability serves as an inspiration to her peers and underscores the transformative impact of student-driven innovation.
