California Charter Schools Association (CCSA) announced that graduating senior Jason Bowden has been selected as a recipient of the 2026 Susan Bragato Scholarship.
Jason is one of only 10 graduating seniors selected from nearly 300 applicants across California to receive the honor. Each scholarship recipient is awarded $2,000 to support their college education.
Named in honor of Susan Steelman Bragato, co-founder of California's first charter public school, the scholarship recognizes exceptional graduating charter school seniors who exemplify leadership, perseverance, service, and a commitment to making a positive impact in their communities.
Throughout his time at Granada Hills Charter, Jason has distinguished himself through academic excellence, scientific research, athletics, and community service. According to CCSA, his research experiences with leading institutions have inspired his passion for cancer immunotherapy, and this fall he will continue that journey at Stanford University, where he plans to study biology.
"We are incredibly proud of Jason and this well-deserved recognition," said Granada Hills Charter leadership. "His dedication to learning, research, and serving others reflects the excellence and character we strive to cultivate in all of our students. We look forward to seeing the incredible impact he will make in the future."
CCSA highlighted Jason as a student who has demonstrated extraordinary leadership by balancing rigorous academics with meaningful service to others—qualities that embody the spirit of the Bragato Scholarship.

Presented annually by the California Charter Schools Association (CCSA), the Susan Bragato Scholarship honors outstanding graduating seniors from California charter public schools who demonstrate leadership, resilience, service, and academic achievement.
