CCSA Update: Spring Recess Ahead, What to Watch and Where to Take Action
The following was adapted from a CCSA newsletter to charter school leaders and is published here to provide information as it relates to legislative impacts on charter schools and school choice for GHC families:
It's policy committee season in Sacramento, and while the legislature breaks for spring recess until April 21, things will move quickly when they return, and we will need your help.
Mark your calendars for these important bills up for hearing in the upcoming weeks:
AB 1493 (Avila Farias) and AB 84 (Muratsuchi) will both be heard on April 30.
Complete the action alert to support AB 1493 (Avila Farias). This is CCSA's sponsored bill to extend the use of verified data ahead of the sunset later this year.
Complete the action alert to oppose AB 84 (Muratsuchi). AB 84 aims to cut funding from charter public schools by more than $500 million by increasing oversight fees on all schools and cutting funding from nonclassroom-based schools.
We are quickly headed towards the policy committee deadline on May 2. Help AB 1493 advance and stop AB 84.
