Granada Hills Charter Alumni Offer Advice to Students (Part 1)
Bonnee Lallouz

The Granada Hills Charter (GHC) alumni advice column provides valuable insights to students as they embark on their college journey.

The school's emphasis on critical thinking, teamwork, and leadership equips students with essential assets for success. Leveraging these qualities helps navigate the transition from high school to college.

This series of alumni experiences highlights finding social outlets, adapting to social change, and embracing the unexpected post-high school journey. Their stories inspire students to persevere, adapt, and thrive in high school and beyond, even in challenging circumstances.

Our alumni advice series features responses from Class of 2018 graduate, Fabiola Avalos-Villatoro:

What qualities did you develop at Granada to help you throughout college?

Leadership, public speaking, and writing skills.

How difficult was it to transition from high school life to college life?

Pretty difficult, I went from a diverse school at GHC to a "not-so-diverse" university, which resulted in culture shock. Class-wise, I was very well-prepared in almost all of my classes. The fast pace of college was a shock, but I eventually got used to it.

What is your social outlet now that you're not in school?

I joined a sorority, so I have a plethora of women to talk to and many fun events to attend virtually. I also talk to my friends online almost daily.

Did your life after high school happen how you thought it would?

Yes! I met a bunch of new people in college, especially since not many people from high school went to my school. I matured a lot and I'm learning all about my interests.

Thank you to Fabiola and our many alumni who continue to support our Highlanders. Visit www.ghcTK12.com for more information about Granada Hills Charter.
