GRADES 6-8 MATHEMATICS COURSE PLACEMENT PROCESS
All sixth-grade students begin with CC Math 6. The GHC TK-8 administers a placement exam aligned to stateadopted content standards to all incoming sixth grade students at orientation. Information from the assessment is used to create cohorts that represent an academically balanced range of abilities.
The GHC TK-8 systematically takes multiple objective academic measures of student performance into consideration to guide students into the appropriate math sequence of courses.
At the end of Grade 6, a student may be considered for placement on the Accelerated Pathway based on the following criteria:
- Grade of “A” or “B” in CC Math 6.

At the end of Grade 5, a student may be considered for placement on the Highly Accelerated Pathway based on the following criteria:
- Composite Math score of “4” or “A” on fifth grade report card.
- Meet or exceed standards on the Smarter Balanced Summative Assessment
- Score 80% or higher on UCLA Math Diagnostic Testing
