Zelzah Campus-Specific Policies

• Absences and Early Leaves.  Please click here to review GHC’s absence verification and early leave policies. Emergency pick-up requests at the front desk cannot be accommodated after 3:00 p.m. because staff begins preparing for dismissal supervision.
• Food Drop-Offs. For health and safety reasons, and to minimize disruptions to school operations, outside food drop-offs are not permitted.  Dietary needs can be accommodated through the cafeteria.  Every student is eligible for a free breakfast, available before school or during nutrition, and a free lunch during the lunch period. Additional food items may be available for purchase. If your student requires a special meal or dietary accommodation, contact the GHC Cafeteria at for assistance.  
• Altercations. Altercations of any kind will not be tolerated. Disciplinary consequences will be enforced and may include suspension or expulsion.  Please remember that suspension days are considered absences and count toward GHC’s drop/fail attendance policy.
• Please Be Kind and Respectful to Our Neighbors. GHC is fortunate to be part of a larger community, and we ask all students to be mindful of our neighbors, local businesses, their customers, and the hardworking employees who share the surrounding area.  Please demonstrate kindness, courtesy, and good judgment. The way we conduct ourselves in the community reflects not only on each individual student, but also on GHC.
  • Loitering.  Students should not linger at nearby shopping centers or businesses after school.  Students should go directly home or participate in one of the many after-school activities available on campus.
  • Fighting and Inappropriate Behavior. Students who engage in fighting, disruptive behavior, or other misconduct in the community or at local businesses may be subject to school discipline and may also receive LAPD trespassing notices. Please treat others and our community with respect.
  • Speeding and Safe Driving.  Speeding puts students, pedestrians, neighbors, and other drivers at risk. Students who drive to school are expected to obey all traffic laws and posted speed limits.
  • Parking.  Please do not block driveways, and always follow posted parking restrictions.  Illegally parked vehicles may be ticketed or towed. GHC provides students with free access to Metro transportation, and we strongly encourage students to use public transportation or carpool whenever possible.
  • Integrity and Respect for Property.  GHC is committed to fostering a culture of integrity, respect, and personal responsibility.  Vandalism and willful damage to school or community property violate these expectations and will result in disciplinary action. When school property is damaged, families may also be held financially responsible for cleanup or repair costs.
• Student Drop-Off and Pick-Up. The Hiawatha staff parking lot opens at 7:15 a.m. and may be used by parents and guardians for student drop-off and turnaround. The lot closes and is locked when Period One begins.  Student drop-offs and pick-ups are not permitted in the Zelzah or Kingsbury staff parking lots.  Out of respect for our neighbors and nearby businesses, please do not use the shopping center parking lot for student drop-off or pick-up.
• Cell Phones and Other Electronics.  Cell phones and other personal electronic devices, including headphones, smart glasses, and earbuds, may not be used after students enter campus.  Items used in violation of this policy may be confiscated, and only a parent or guardian may retrieve a confiscated item.  Parents and guardians picking up confiscated items must enter campus through the front entrance next to Highlander Hall, located off Kingsbury Street, from 7:15 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. 
• GHC Dress Code.  Students are expected to follow the GHC dress code throughout the school day. Non-GHC hats and unauthorized head coverings are not permitted on campus and may be confiscated.  Dress code violations may result in detention.
