Important Update on Facial Masks COVID-19 Safety Protocols

Brian Bauer

Effective Monday, February 28, 2022, students and staff may choose to remove their facial masks in outdoor areas on GHC campuses.

Facial Masks

Facial masks (KN95, N95, or surgical quality) are still required at all times indoors.  However, in PE classes held outdoors in which social distancing can be maintained, students and staff may opt to remove their facial masks.

Given the declining COVID-19 case rates, the State and Los Angeles County Health Departments recently announced that TK-12 schools may allow for the removal of a facial mask while outdoors on campus. However, facial masks are highly recommended in crowded outdoor areas or when social distancing is not possible.

COVID-19 Testing Cadence

All GHC students and staff will continue to test two times per week for COVID-19. Frequent COVID-19 testing  is one of the most effective measures to identify and reduce the transmission of COVID-19 in the GHC community. In the coming weeks, if COVID-19 case rates continue to decline on campus, we will review the cadence of COVID-19 testing of students and staff.

Visitor COVID-19 Vaccination Requirement

As we prepare and plan for additional in-person school events (e.g., athletic competitions, student performances, and high school graduation and eighth-grade culmination ceremonies) later this Spring, please keep in mind that all visitors 12 years of age and older must be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 to attend activities held on campus. Please review the GHC On-Campus Spectator Policy.

Ongoing Response to COVID-19

Granada Hills Charter remains committed to using COVID-19 testing data, the health conditions on campus, and guidance from state and county health departments to guide our COVID-19 safety measures. Should we observe an increase in COVID-19 transmission on campus, certain safety measures, including the use of facial masks outdoors, may be implemented. Conversely, as conditions improve, certain safety measures may be removed.

Maintaining a safe learning and working environment is our top priority. Thank you for all that you are doing to keep yourself and the GHC community safe and healthy.
