Los Angeles Black College Expo Field Trip: A Gateway to Higher Education

This month, the LA Convention Center was abuzz with excitement as GHC high school students from grades 10, 11, and 12 gathered for the Los Angeles Black College Expo Field Trip.

This event was an opportunity for students to connect with representatives from a variety of historically black colleges and universities (HBCUs) and other educational institutions.

The expo was not just about exploring academic programs; it was a gateway to scholarship opportunities and, for seniors, a chance to get accepted on the spot.

  • Exploring Opportunities: The expo was a melting pot of opportunities. Students had the chance to interact with representatives from HBCUs like Howard University, Spelman College, and Morehouse College, among others. Additionally, representatives from other educational institutions were present, offering a diverse range of academic programs and scholarship opportunities.
  • On-Site Admissions: One of the highlights of the expo was the on-site admissions process. Seniors with purple folders were accepted to Mount St. Mary's University via on-site admissions. This was a testament to the hard work and dedication of the college counselors who orchestrated the field trip.
  • Black Student Union: Many of the students in attendance were also members of GHC's Black Student Union (BSU) club. The expo provided them with a platform to explore higher education opportunities that align with their cultural and academic interests.

The Los Angeles Black College Expo Field Trip was a resounding success. It not only provided students with a glimpse into the world of higher education but also opened doors to scholarship opportunities and on-site admissions.

Our college counselors deserve special recognition for their hard work in organizing this event. As we look forward to future expos, let us continue to support and encourage our students in their pursuit of higher education.
